Los Angeles has a long tradition of demolishing its architectural treasures -- and along with them, the history of the city. The Ambassador could be a turning point. The School Board is a laughing stock of incompetence and corruption. They can't figure out how to give a decent education to third graders, much less how to preserve a piece of history. Surely there is a group of civic-minded philanthropists out there who would support this effort if the city would make it possible. The first step would be to take any form of control out of the hands of the School Board. That could be done through City Hall with the leadership of our out-going mayor. Or -- imagine this -- what a powerful symbolic act for a new mayor to make. I'd vote for the man (or woman) who would take a stand in favor of preserving The Ambassador. How about you?
