Following the sale of the hotel in 1989, the power struggle between the buyers and the local school district, along with the decision to build a school on another piece of land that was ultimately declared uninhabitable, about $200 million was spent for absolutely nothing! Those taxpayer dollars could have gone towards the renovation and restoration of the hotel, preserving a remarkable Los Angeles landmark. It's rather simple- if the City does not protect the historical sites, none will remain. Subdividing the property and cramming the land with other developments should not be an option. Preserve the hotel, keeping the property intact. And find another place to build a school.
