I too have been to the hotel several times after it closed, and I agree- it has something other hotels just don't (and can't) have, that remains with the hotel to this day. Hotels like the more than billion dollar Venetian in Las Vegas, while it's new and pretty, can't touch the mystique of the Ambassador. The magic is still there, even in it's present state, and I think the current ownership is afraid to let people in to experience it for themselves, because they're afraid that feeling will make people want the hotel to stay. Their plans to demolish it would be dashed, to make room for yet another slick new development, with no soul and no history, and turn the Ambassador into just a memory.
