While I would certainly prefer the hotel remain standing rather than torn down, I don't want to see it utilized as office space for the LAUSD, or to see the hotel's tremendous parcel of land split up, with a giant high school occupying a substantial portion of the property. I agree that the LAUSD needs to know there are people who want the hotel to stay, but to stay as a hotel, not as a mixed-use development with office space and a high school. The LA Conservancy needs to refocus their effort in preserving the HOTEL, which doesn't mean just keeping the building standing, although it's a start. In the meantime, we should let the LAUSD know we do care about the hotel, and you've posted some valuable information to help with that effort.
I went to look at the Brown Derby, the former Los Angeles landmark restaurant across from the Ambassador. Yes, the famous Derby dome has been "preserved," but what a sad sight to see the dome sitting atop a nondescript mini-mall restaurant. At one time, it had been painted silver. That's not preservation, it's desecration. I hope the Brown Derby is not an indication of what will happen to the Ambassador when it gets "preserved."
